Our country boasts a rich heritage of educational resources, including insightful textbooks and ancient scriptures that have guided humanity for thousands of years. This wisdom continues to illuminate paths toward understanding the society and mankind. However, a pressing challenge we face is the high rate of illiteracy in India, which has the largest number of illiterate adults globally, accounting for approximately 287 million individuals. This represents 37% of the world’s illiterate adult population. Among this, 12% children aged 7–14 years are uneducated and 1.17 million are identified as out-of- school. This gap underscores the need for targeted efforts to promote education equity, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of status, have access to the knowledge and tools necessary for personal and societal growth.
Why Education is Important?
Education is widely recognized as a vital source of knowledge, shaping our society and its future. Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDGs 4) emphasizes the importance of inclusive and equitable quality education for all. In response, the Government of India has launched numerous initiatives such as Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, the Right to Education (RTE) Act, and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao to address the issues of illiteracy and gender disparity in education.
However, despite these efforts, many programs predominantly reach urban and suburban areas, leaving remote and regional villages under-served. As a result, countless young and talented individuals in these areas remain without the necessary resources to flourish.
The N.A.V Yuva Foundation recognizes this challenge and is dedicated to expanding educational access to marginalized communities across the country. Their mission focuses on empowering underserved populations through education and skill development, coupled with a sustainable approach. Since its inception, the “Shiksha ki Amrit Yatra” has achieved remarkable progress:
- Schools Reached: In the span of 1 year, the foundation has reached 180+ schools in the remote settlements.
- Career Counselling: More than 1 lakh students have been guided and provided with essential academic resources.
- Workshops Hosted: A sum of 300+ guidance lectures and boot camps have been organised.
